Miami Reportedly Claims Kaytron Allen Off Waivers

Published 9 October 2026

The Washington Commanders waived rookie running back Kaytron Allen on Thursday, October 8, after he appeared in each of the team’s first four games. A day later, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Miami Dolphins had claimed Allen off waivers, ending Washington’s reported chance of bringing him back to its practice squad if he cleared waivers. Allen, 23, had 12 carries for 41 yards with Washington. The Commanders selected him in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and the roster move came as the team’s backfield changed with veteran Jeremy McNichols nearing a return from injury. Washington had opened McNichols’s 21-day practice window, according to one report. Before the Miami claim was reported, Washington was hoping Allen would clear waivers and become eligible to rejoin the team on its practice squad, according to reporting that cited John Keim. A waiver claim would instead assign Allen to the claiming team. The Miami move was reported by Schefter; the supplied reports do not include an official transaction record confirming it. Allen played four seasons at Penn State and finished his college career with 4,180 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns.
