McLaren to discuss Norris-Piastri Singapore Sprint collision

Published 11 October 2026

McLaren will hold a private discussion with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri after the teammates collided on the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint, an incident that left Piastri out of the race and Norris eighth. Team principal Andrea Stella said the team would reiterate that its interests take precedence over any individual driver. The pair were running fourth and fifth and pursuing Charles Leclerc for third when Norris attempted to pass Piastri on the inside at Turn 5. The McLarens made contact and spun. Piastri hit the barrier and retired, while Norris continued to the finish and earned one point. Stella said McLaren had lost the chance to score more points; Norris’s eighth place brought one, compared with the nine he might have secured by finishing fourth. Stewards investigated the collision and took no further action. Their decision said both drivers contributed and neither was wholly or predominantly to blame. The stewards’ account recorded that Piastri said he had not expected Norris to attempt an overtake, while Norris said he saw an opportunity and believed his car was alongside before the apex.
