Stewards Take No Further Action After Norris-Piastri Sprint Clash
McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided on the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint on October 10, leaving Piastri out of the race and Norris eighth. The stewards found that both drivers contributed to the Turn 5 incident, but neither was wholly or predominantly to blame, and took no further action. Norris attempted to pass Piastri on the inside while they were fighting for fourth and fifth. The contact sent both cars spinning. Piastri retired, while Norris finished in eighth place, earning one point for McLaren rather than the nine points the team had been in position to score. In their written decision, the stewards said Piastri had not expected Norris to attempt the pass but tried to leave room after seeing him on the inside. Norris told them he believed his front axle was ahead of Piastri’s mirror and expected space. As the cars reached the apex, the available room was less than Norris anticipated, and a collision followed. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella called the contact unacceptable and said the team would discuss it privately with both drivers. He said protecting the team’s interests was a fundamental principle of how they race.
