Martin wins Austrian sprint after Acosta crash

Jorge Martin won the Austrian MotoGP sprint race on Saturday after championship rival Pedro Acosta crashed from the lead with three laps remaining. The Aprilia rider recovered from eighth place following an opening-lap incident with Marc Marquez to claim his fourth victory of the season and retake the championship lead. Martin started from pole position but ran wide at the exit of Turn 1, allowing Marquez to challenge into the Turn 2 chicane. The pair made contact, forcing Martin off the track and dropping him to eighth. Marquez briefly took the lead before running wide at Turn 4, which allowed Acosta to move into first place on his KTM. Acosta built a comfortable lead of over two seconds before crashing at Turn 2 with three laps to go. The rookie remounted but retired in the pits, handing the victory to Martin. Marc Marquez finished second, 1.026 seconds behind, with Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi completing the podium. Martin's recovery was rapid, as he passed five riders by the midpoint of the 14-lap race. He moved back into second place on lap 8 with a firm overtake on Marquez at Turn 1. The Spaniard denied the move was retaliation for the opening-lap clash.
