The 20th Asian Games officially opened in Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday, September 19, with a ceremony at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. The ceremony followed a buildup marked by significant operational and logistical challenges. Organizers opted against a dedicated athletes' village, instead housing competitors in a mix of hotels, temporary wooden containers, and a cruise ship. This led to complaints from multiple delegations about accommodation mix-ups, double-bookings, and cramped conditions.
