Published 11 October 2026

Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on October 11, extending their perfect start to the Premier League season after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the second half. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored for City, who secured their sixth win in six league matches. The match was goalless at halftime, with both sides having spells of pressure. Liverpool were reduced to 10 players in the 62nd minute when Gravenberch received a second yellow card for a foul on Doku. City took the lead three minutes later: Doku’s attempt was deflected into Haaland’s path, and the striker finished past goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Doku doubled City’s lead in the 68th minute with a curling shot into the far corner. Cherki completed the scoring in the 78th minute, finishing after a move involving Josko Gvardiol. Doku, introduced as a substitute, helped create the opener, scored the second and drew the foul that led to Gravenberch’s dismissal. The result left City with 18 points from six matches and Liverpool with nine points from six, according to reported standings. Liverpool suffered their first league defeat of the season. City maintained their place at the top of the table.
