Lin Yuting wins second Asian Games gold in 60kg final
Taiwanese boxer Lin Yuting won the women’s 60kg final at the Asian Games on Friday, defeating China’s Yang Chengyu 5-0 in Nagoya. The victory gave Lin her second Asian Games gold, following her win in the 57kg class at the Hangzhou Games three years earlier, and added to the Olympic title she won in Paris in 2024. Lin, 30, used her reach to control the bout and held off a late push from Yang, according to reports from the competition. The result came in a heavier weight class than the 57kg division in which Lin won her previous Asian Games and Olympic titles. Before the Games, Lin said she had considered retiring after the Paris Olympics but chose to continue competing despite people questioning her eligibility. After the final, she described the period since Paris as difficult and said she was grateful she had persevered. She also said the Asian Games win held particular significance for her. Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif became the focus of an eligibility dispute during the Paris Olympics. The International Boxing Association had disqualified both from the 2023 world championships after saying they failed unspecified eligibility tests.
