Published 3 October 2026

Seventeen-year-old Indian archer Kumkum Mohod won the women’s individual recurve gold at the Asian Games on October 3, defeating South Korea’s Oh Yejin in a shoot-off after their final ended level at 5-5. Mohod scored 10 with her deciding arrow; Oh scored 8. The victory made Mohod the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games medal in the individual recurve event, and the first to take its gold. The final was decided after five sets. Oh took the opening set 29-27, and the second was tied 29-29, giving her a 3-1 lead in set points. Mohod levelled the match by winning the third set 30-29, but Oh edged the fourth 28-27. With the contest at 5-3, Mohod won the fifth set 30-28 to force the one-arrow shoot-off. The individual title was Mohod’s third medal of the Games. She had earlier won women’s recurve team gold with Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma, and mixed-team silver with Dhiraj Bommadevara. Those results, along with her individual victory, gave her two gold medals and one silver at the competition. Mohod reached the final by beating China’s Jingyi Zhu 6-2 in the semifinal.
