Jolie shares Gaza satellite images and urges aid
Angelina Jolie has shared before-and-after satellite images of Gaza on Instagram, drawing attention to extensive destruction and urging that civilians receive shelter, medical supplies and humanitarian assistance as winter approaches. The images show parts of Rafah, Khan Younis and Gaza City before and after the war, according to descriptions of her post. Jolie said whole neighborhoods had been reduced to rubble and that homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water and sanitation systems, and other infrastructure had been damaged or destroyed. She also said satellite images could show physical damage but not the experiences of families killed or of people who survived. To support her appeal, Jolie cited a UN Satellite Centre assessment estimating that 201,290 structures, about 82% of Gaza’s structures, had sustained damage as of June 16, 2026. The assessment classified 134,422 as destroyed, 13,848 as severely damaged and 28,096 as moderately damaged. These are structure counts, not a count of people affected. Jolie also cited an estimate that 1.98 million people, or 94% of Gaza’s population, needed shelter assistance and essential items as winter approached.
