Tornado damages homes and businesses in Ulladulla

Published 4 October 2026

A tornado struck Ulladulla on Saturday, October 3, damaging homes and businesses, bringing down trees and powerlines, and prompting emergency responses on the New South Wales South Coast. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed the event was a tornado, according to meteorologist Angus Hines, while local damage assessments were still developing the following day. The NSW State Emergency Service responded to 34 jobs in Ulladulla, many described as significant by spokesperson Emily Barton. Barton said two homes were deemed uninhabitable because of tornado damage, much of it affecting properties in and around the town’s central business district. SES teams from Yass and Nowra travelled to assist local volunteers. Reports of statewide callouts used a different scope: an earlier account said the SES had recorded more than 80 incidents across New South Wales, most in Ulladulla. That total is not directly comparable with the 34 Ulladulla jobs reported in the later local account. The final number of properties seriously damaged or rendered uninhabitable was not available. The tornado was seen in video recorded by residents and visitors.
