Heavy rain kills 10 in Uttar Pradesh, with more rain forecast

Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds have disrupted daily life across Uttar Pradesh, with state and police accounts reporting 10 deaths and 17 injuries in rain-related incidents. Officials said 63 districts received above-normal rainfall, 117 houses were damaged and some areas faced a risk of flash floods. The death toll remains unclear: other reports gave totals of six, 13 and 16, without establishing matching time periods or incident coverage. Officials attributed five deaths to mud-wall collapses and five to trees uprooted by the wind and rain. Casualties were reported in Lakhimpur Kheri, Amethi, Barabanki and Gorakhpur. Gorakhpur authorities reported four deaths and 14 injuries involving fallen trees. In one incident, a tree fell on a hut in Campierganj, killing three people and seriously injuring two others. A separate falling tree killed a man in Gagaha. Rain caused waterlogging and traffic problems in several locations, while fallen trees and electricity poles disrupted power supplies. Twenty mud houses were damaged in Kannauj, and officials said three members of a family were injured when a wall collapsed in a village in Lucknow district.
