Jaiswal Practising Wicketkeeping, Mumbai Captain Says

Published 8 October 2026

Yashasvi Jaiswal is practising wicketkeeping alongside his batting, with Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad saying the opener may hope to keep for Mumbai or India in the future. Lad stressed, however, that he is not sure of Jaiswal’s intentions, and there is no indication that Jaiswal will take the role in an official match. Jaiswal has been seen wearing wicketkeeping gloves in practice. Reports also say he kept wickets for about 10 overs in a Mumbai practice match ahead of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season. The training adds wicketkeeping to his work as a batter and his practice of legspin, but does not establish that he has been selected as a keeper. Speaking at Mumbai’s preseason press conference, Lad said he had heard Jaiswal wanted eventually to keep for Mumbai or the Indian team. He also said Jaiswal had begun practising because he wanted to add to his game, while making clear he did not know the player’s plans. The ambition therefore remains an account of what Lad had heard, not a confirmed commitment from Jaiswal.
