Laxman to Attend BCCI Men’s Selection Meetings
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided that VVS Laxman, head of its Centre of Excellence, will attend future senior men’s selection committee meetings, secretary Devajit Saikia said. The board says the arrangement is intended to give selectors direct information about players’ fitness and rehabilitation and reduce the risk of miscommunication. The decision was made at a review meeting in Mumbai, according to Saikia. Laxman attended the recent selection meeting in Guwahati, where selectors considered India’s T20I squad for the New Zealand series and the India A team. The BCCI now expects him to be present at senior men’s selection meetings going forward; no start date or further implementation details were provided. Saikia said Laxman, as head of cricket at the Centre of Excellence, has information about players’ injuries. He said the aim is for selectors to receive complete and accurate information when making decisions, rather than to make the selection process more transparent. Saikia also said recurring injuries among Indian players have become a major concern for the board.
