IOC names seven parties in 2036 Olympics host dialogue
The International Olympic Committee said seven national Olympic committees are in continuous dialogue with it over hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, setting out an assessment process while leaving the eventual host undecided. The interested parties are Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Türkiye, according to the IOC. The IOC said the parties have been invited to present their projects to its Future Host Commission in November. It also set October 31, 2026, as the cutoff for additional parties to be considered in the 2036 process. The invitation and deadline are steps in an ongoing selection process, not confirmation that any of the current parties will become host. The candidates will be assessed on technical considerations including venue plans, athlete experience, funding, public and political support, capacity to deliver the Games and plans for a lasting legacy, the IOC said. The assessment will also consider each party’s vision for the Games and alignment with local development plans and Olympic Movement goals, according to the process description. The IOC’s handbook outlines further stages.
