Miller keeps South Africa hopes alive after contract loss

David Miller says losing his Cricket South Africa contract has not changed his commitment to the national team, with the veteran middle-order batter included in South Africa's squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia starting Thursday in Durban. Miller was left out of Cricket South Africa's 2026-27 contracted list after spending the previous year on a hybrid deal, according to reporting. The 36-year-old described the omission as disappointing but said he remains available for selection. "I lost my contract with Cricket South Africa and it's never really nice but it's part of life. I still want to play for South Africa, I'm still making myself available and it's just about making sure that everything is communicated really well," Miller said. He added that representing South Africa remains his priority despite his extensive franchise T20 commitments. "My priority has always been South Africa. Although I've played a lot of leagues, I've always wanted to play for South Africa and I love playing for South Africa. Nothing's changed. It's just that I've lost my contract," he said. "So if selected, then I'll play.
