South Africa open ODI series against Australia in Durban

South Africa are scheduled to open a three-match one-day international series against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban on September 24, with the hosts facing a depleted pace-bowling group. The match is the first of three ODIs before the teams move on to a Test series. South Africa are reported to be without Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Ottneil Baartman and Kwena Maphaka for the ODI series. Maphaka was ruled out after injuring his hamstring in training, according to pre-series reports. The absences leave South Africa with fewer fast-bowling options as they begin the home series. Allrounder Marco Jansen said he expected to take on a leadership role among the fast bowlers if called upon. He described his approach as helping the attack stay composed and clarify plans during difficult periods. Jansen is part of a South African squad that also includes captain Temba Bavuma, batter David Miller, spinner Keshav Maharaj and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee. The series is scheduled to continue in Johannesburg on September 27 and conclude in Potchefstroom on September 30. The ODI leg is part of a wider Australia tour that also includes three Tests.
