India, Uzbekistan Upgrade Ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

India and Uzbekistan have agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and establish a long-term framework for uranium supplies to India, marking a significant expansion of ties during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tashkent. The announcements followed delegation-level talks between Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The upgraded partnership, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the original strategic relationship, sets a target to increase annual bilateral trade to $5 billion by 2030, up from the current volume of over $1 billion.
