Icelanders Reject EU Accession Referendum
Icelanders voted decisively to reject a referendum that would have restarted negotiations to join the European Union, according to preliminary results reported by the national broadcaster RUV on Sunday. The "no" side prevailed with approximately 52.8 percent of the vote, effectively ending the government's push to reopen accession talks and settling a debate that has resurfaced periodically for decades.
