ICE Officer Shoots Man During New York Arrest Operation

Published 8 October 2026

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and wounded a man during a targeted arrest operation in Marble Hill, New York, on October 8, while a five-year-old child was in the vehicle, officials said. The man survived and was taken to a hospital; the child was unharmed, according to city officials. The Department of Homeland Security said the operation took place at about 4 p.m. in the Bronx and that an ICE officer fired a weapon during the encounter. The department has not publicly explained what led the officer to shoot. The incident remained under investigation as of October 9. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said NYPD officers were not involved in the federal operation. Citing police camera footage, she said the man was backing toward a parking space when a plainclothes federal officer approached with a gun drawn. The vehicle began moving forward and left the camera’s view; the footage did not capture the shooting, Tisch said. Tisch said at least one officer fired seven rounds, striking the man in the neck. She said the child was unharmed and was with a relative.
