Homan challenges CBS reporter over ICE custody deaths
Tom Homan, the White House border czar, challenged CBS correspondent Camilo Montoya-Galvez to provide figures on deaths in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody during the Biden administration after the reporter cited an official ICE count of 57 deaths under the current Trump administration. Montoya-Galvez said he did not have the Biden-era data with him. The exchange did not establish a comparable death total for the two administrations or resolve the period covered by the 57 figure. In the interview, Montoya-Galvez said ICE had reported another death on the day of their conversation and warned that 2026 could set a record for deaths in detention. He asked what the agency was doing to prevent them and said the larger number of people being detained was one partial explanation, but might not be the only one. Homan responded by asking how many people had died in ICE custody during the Biden administration. After Montoya-Galvez said he lacked the figure, Homan called the question against the Trump administration loaded.
