Kano Police Question NDC Candidate Over Viral Video
Kano State Police have invited Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over a social-media video that police said appeared to show him displaying a firearm at a political gathering. The Command said Warkal was at its State Intelligence Department while officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the footage. Police announced no charge. Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said officers came across the circulating video during routine cyber patrols. According to the police account, it appeared to show Warkal holding or displaying an object suspected to be a pump-action rifle. The footage and the object’s identity have not been independently established in the supplied accounts. Police said Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori directed that Warkal be invited to the Command headquarters in Bompai, Kano. The investigation was ongoing, and the Command did not announce a finding about what the video depicts or whether the alleged conduct was unlawful. The police said an unlawful public display of a firearm, if established, could violate the Firearms Act and create fear, intimidate members of the public or threaten public peace.
