FBI whistleblower alleges pressure to investigate protesters

Published 6 October 2026

Former FBI supervisory intelligence analyst Jill Fields alleges that Trump administration officials pressed the FBI in 2025 to investigate Los Angeles-area protesters over their opposition to immigration enforcement, including after President Donald Trump watched a TikTok video of demonstrators using megaphones. Her complaint to the Senate Judiciary Committee says the directives targeted First Amendment activity and raised concerns about FBI policy and constitutional protections. According to the complaint, the video showed protesters in Alhambra warning residents about immigration agents and informing them of their legal rights. Fields alleges that FBI Director Kash Patel was told Trump wanted the people in the video investigated. An unnamed person later told Fields, “the President wants this investigation,” according to the complaint. The precise steps taken in response remain unclear. One account of the complaint says agents conducted preliminary checks on two to four protesters accused of impeding an immigration arrest, while Fields reportedly did not know whether a formal investigation followed.
