Yorktown senior and West Virginia commit killed in Muncie
Chris Wilson Jr., a 17-year-old senior at Yorktown High School and a West Virginia football commit, was shot and killed in Muncie, Indiana, early Monday, October 5, police said. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle on the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene. Muncie police are investigating. Authorities had not publicly identified a suspect or disclosed a motive in reports available October 5 and 6, and had not released details about what happened before Wilson was found. Police information reported by local accounts places the discovery shortly before 3 a.m.; one report said dispatchers received a gunfire call at 2:59 a.m. Wilson was a defensive end and a four-star prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. He committed to West Virginia in June, choosing the Mountaineers after drawing interest from other college programs. He was expected to join the team after completing high school, but had not yet played for the university. Yorktown principal Stacey Brewer informed students and families of Wilson’s death in a message, saying his family had authorized the school to share the news.
