Herta’s F1 aim remains as Cadillac discusses 2027 plans

Colton Herta is 19th in the Formula 2 standings with 26 points, well short of the top-10 target set by Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss, as he and the team discuss his role for 2027. Herta says he still hopes to reach Formula 1 within the next two years, but has no firm plans for next season. Driving for Hitech, Herta’s best result reported this season is fifth in the Barcelona sprint. His F2 campaign has not delivered the results Cadillac had sought as part of his development toward Formula 1. No formal decision on his future with the team has been announced. Herta said he and Cadillac are discussing opportunities within the team. Depending on what role, if any, is available, he said he would then consider which racing series could fit alongside it. He has not confirmed whether he will continue in F2, return to IndyCar or take another route. A second F2 season is not his priority, Herta said, but he has not ruled it out. He has indicated that returning would be more appealing if he saw evidence of progress. His comments clarify that an earlier expression of disinterest was not a final decision against competing in the series again.
