Herbstreit Extends With Prime Video as McVay Remains a Target

Published 1 October 2026

Kirk Herbstreit has agreed to a new contract extension with Prime Video to continue as an NFL game analyst, while reported terms give Amazon flexibility to move on if one of its preferred candidates, including Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, becomes available. The agreement keeps Herbstreit with Thursday Night Football for now, but its duration, compensation and conditions have not been disclosed. The reported flexibility comes from the deal’s terms as described by Andrew Marchand, whose account was cited by multiple reports. Sources briefed on the decision, but not authorized to speak publicly, said Amazon could move on from Herbstreit if a top target became available. The contract itself has not been made public, and the extent of Amazon’s ability to end or change the arrangement remains unclear. McVay is a potential candidate, not a confirmed prospective hire. He remains the Rams’ head coach, and there is no reported decision by him to leave coaching or pursue a broadcasting role. His name has surfaced in connection with Amazon before: a 2022 report said the company offered him about $20 million a year after the Rams won the Super Bowl, but McVay stayed with the team.
