Grand Canyon Flash Flood Kills 2, Leaves 15 Missing

A flash flood in the Grand Canyon has left at least two people dead and approximately 15 others missing, with authorities continuing search and rescue operations in the remote canyon. The first victim has been identified as 46-year-old John Giusti, a chiropractor and father of three from Granbury, Texas, whose body was recovered on August 30. Two of his friends, Brent Rosenkranz, 42, and Timothy Allen Smith, 53, remain among the unaccounted for. The disaster unfolded on the afternoon of August 29, when intense rainfall on the Kaibab Plateau triggered a flash flood that swept through Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area.
