Tropical Depression Forms in Gulf, Threatens Texas and Louisiana

A new tropical depression formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, August 31, 2026, and was forecast to strengthen into Tropical Storm Edouard before making landfall along the Texas and Louisiana coasts by Tuesday, September 1. Meanwhile, the remnants of the recently dissipated Tropical Storm Dolly were expected to bring heavy rainfall to Florida later in the week. The National Hurricane Center reported that Tropical Depression Five developed in the northern Gulf, located approximately 105 miles south of Morgan City, Louisiana, and 185 miles southeast of Port Arthur, Texas. The system was moving west-northwest at 6 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
