Giants beat Cardinals 36-24 as Banks seals win
The New York Giants defeated the Arizona Cardinals 36-24 on Sunday, with Jameis Winston throwing three touchdown passes and two interceptions before Deonte Banks returned a late interception 98 yards for a touchdown to seal the win. The result gave New York sole possession of first place in the NFC East, according to postgame accounts. Winston completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards in his second start in place of the injured Jaxson Dart. He connected with Malachi Fields, Malik Nabers and Theo Johnson for touchdowns. His 12-yard pass to Fields ended a Giants touchdown drought that had lasted more than nine quarters, one account reported. The Giants led 19-17 at halftime after trailing 14-3 early, then fell behind 24-19 in the third quarter before Winston’s scoring pass to Johnson put New York back in front. The Cardinals had an opportunity to take the lead late, but Banks intercepted Jacoby Brissett on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line and ran it back for the game’s final touchdown. Brissett finished 21 of 35 for 166 yards, two touchdown passes and three interceptions.
