Giants say Dart will miss regular season after knee injury

New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that quarterback Jaxson Dart will miss the rest of the regular season after tearing his meniscus and medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Dart is expected to undergo surgery, and the team plans to add another quarterback for depth as Jameis Winston takes over as the starter. Harbaugh left open the possibility that Dart could return for the postseason if the Giants qualify. A reported recovery estimate of four to six months, however, would make a return for the mid-January wild-card round difficult. The team has not provided a confirmed surgery date or an updated recovery timetable. Reports citing NFL reporters Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter said further testing found more damage than the MCL sprain initially diagnosed after Dart left Monday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Schefter’s reported injury details also included the posterior cruciate ligament, while Harbaugh named the meniscus and MCL. The meniscus was described in those reports as the primary concern. Winston will remain the Giants’ starter, with Jake Haener elevated to backup duties, Harbaugh said.
