Banks’ 98-yard pick-six seals Giants’ 36-24 win
The New York Giants beat the Arizona Cardinals 36-24 on October 4, when cornerback Deonte Banks returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown as time expired to secure New York’s second straight victory. The win lifted the Giants to 3-1 and into sole possession of first place in the NFC East, after the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Los Angeles Rams. Arizona built a 14-3 lead with touchdowns on its first two possessions, as quarterback Jacoby Brissett connected with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Tyler Allgeier scored on a run. New York’s defense then intercepted Brissett twice in the second quarter, with rookie linebacker Arvell Reese recording one of the picks. The Giants turned those opportunities into touchdowns and took a 19-14 lead before halftime. Jameis Winston threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, but also had two interceptions. His touchdown passes to rookie Malachi Fields and Malik Nabers helped New York move in front in the second quarter. Arizona’s defense intercepted Winston early in the second half, setting up Brissett’s touchdown pass to Elijah Higgins and a 24-19 Cardinals lead.
