Ghana Announces Mutual Separation From Coach Queiroz

Published 1 October 2026

The Ghana Football Association announced Thursday that Carlos Queiroz and Ghana had mutually ended their coaching relationship, following the team’s two defeats in its opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches. The announcement described the separation as agreed by both parties, although another account published the same day said Queiroz’s future remained under scrutiny and did not confirm that his departure had been finalized. Ghana lost 2-0 away to Côte d’Ivoire before falling 4-2 at home to The Gambia on Tuesday, leaving the Black Stars without a point after two Group C matches. Against The Gambia, Ghana took a two-goal lead but conceded four times. The defeats put the team at the bottom of the group, according to one report. In a statement included in the association’s announcement, Queiroz said both sides agreed that ending their professional relationship was the most appropriate course under the circumstances. He cited recent performances and said necessary conditions had not been fully established, without specifying which conditions he meant.
