Galway appoint Éamonn Fitzmaurice on three-year term
Galway GAA has appointed Éamonn Fitzmaurice as its senior football manager on a three-year term, bringing the search for a successor to Pádraic Joyce to a close. Galway chair Paul Bellew announced the appointment, with Fitzmaurice’s management and backroom team still to be finalised over the coming weeks. Fitzmaurice, a native of Kerry, managed his home county from 2013 to 2018 and led it to the All-Ireland title in 2014. He takes over after Joyce stepped down in early September following seven years in charge. Galway reached the All-Ireland finals in 2022 and 2024 during Joyce’s tenure, according to the appointment announcement. Bellew said Fitzmaurice’s record as a player and manager, as well as his recent work on the Football Rules Committee, were among the qualities behind the appointment. He also thanked those involved in the selection process and said Galway looked forward to working with the new manager, the players and the wider team. No members of Fitzmaurice’s backroom staff were named in the announcement. Fitzmaurice managed Kerry for six seasons, winning the 2014 All-Ireland title and six Munster championships.
