Germany beats Serbia 2-0 for Klopp’s first win

Published 2 October 2026

Germany beat Serbia 2-0 in the UEFA Nations League in Munich on October 1, giving Jürgen Klopp his first victory in three matches as the national team’s manager. Tom Bischof opened the scoring before halftime, and Florian Wirtz added Germany’s second after the break. The result came at the Allianz Arena, where Germany controlled much of the match and created repeated chances. Bischof scored shortly before halftime after Wirtz’s effort struck the post; the reports differ on whether the goal came directly from a pass or a rebound. It was Bischof’s first goal for Germany. Wirtz secured the win in the 61st minute, receiving a pass from Maximilian Mittelstädt before finishing past Serbia’s defense. Germany continued to press after taking the lead, while Serbia struggled to create a response. The 2-0 scoreline held through the final whistle. Klopp made extensive changes to the side that had lost to Greece in its previous match. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and winger Derry Scherhant made their international debuts. Germany’s attack generated opportunities through Serge Gnabry, Nick Woltemade and Scherhant, but did not convert several of them.
