Gaza City buries 105 people recovered from rubble
Families in Gaza City buried the remains of 105 people recovered from rubble after a recovery operation coordinated with an Egyptian committee, civil defence officials said. The burial took place Thursday at Sheikh Radwan cemetery, nearly three years after the remains were trapped in buildings destroyed on October 25, 2023. The recovered remains were brought from residential buildings in the Al-Taj area of the Al-Yarmouk district. Reports differ on the number of buildings involved: civil defence figures cited in one account said 16, while another described the recovery as coming from a residential block. The operation concluded this week, and a farewell ceremony was held at the site on Wednesday before the burial. Relatives and other mourners gathered for funeral prayers and accompanied the remains to the cemetery. Among those retrieved were 16 members of Osama Sharaf’s family, including his parents and siblings. Reports said 37 members of his family were killed in the 2023 attack. Families had been unable to bury many of the dead while they remained beneath the rubble. The death toll from the attack has not been established in the available accounts.
