Fifth woman found dead in Kempton Park as police investigate killings

The body of Elizabeth Moselakgomo, a 38-year-old woman who disappeared during a run, has been identified by her family, bringing to five the number of women found dead in the Kempton Park area since July. The discovery has intensified a police investigation and sparked community outrage over the safety of women in the region. Moselakgomo was identified at the Germiston Mortuary on Monday, September 14, after her body was found on September 12 in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park. Her family reported her missing on September 9 when she failed to return from an evening run, an alert prompted by her eight-year-old daughter. Her death is the latest in a series of killings that has alarmed the community. Police have found five women's bodies in Kempton Park and the adjacent area of Olifantsfontein since July. The victims were all black women in their thirties, and their bodies were discovered partially or completely naked with visible injuries. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has established a multidisciplinary task team to investigate the deaths. However, officials have not confirmed that the cases are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.
