Fable Reboot Protected From Xbox Layoffs As Vital To Platform
The upcoming Fable reboot from Playground Games has been shielded from recent layoffs at Xbox because the franchise is considered "vital to the DNA of the platform," according to the game's director. Ralph Fulton, director of the Fable reboot, revealed in an interview that the game's development began in 2016 and has been protected through multiple rounds of staff reductions at its publisher. "I genuinely think Fable is an important game. What has protected us over a long development cycle is that so many people within Xbox view Fable as vital to the DNA of the platform," Fulton said. "I would go a step further and say it's important to video games as a whole. It offers a combination of elements that simply doesn't exist anywhere else." The game is scheduled for release on February 23, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This marks the first time a Fable title will launch on a PlayStation platform. The reboot was officially announced in 2020, though development had been underway for four years prior. Fulton emphasized the team's commitment to delivering a satisfying conclusion to the game's story.
