Ethereum Delays Glamsterdam Testnet Activation on Hoodi

Published 23 October 2026

Ethereum developers have postponed Glamsterdam’s planned activation on the Hoodi testnet, removing its October 26 launch schedule while they examine how proposed gas changes could interact with existing smart contracts. The Ethereum Foundation had not announced a replacement date as of October 23. The review centers on EIP-8037, which would change gas pricing, and EIP-8038, which updates the cost of reading blockchain state. The Foundation said developers need more time to assess how the proposals work with existing contracts. The delay concerns testnet activation; the reports do not establish that deployed contracts have been damaged. The scrutiny follows analysis by security firm ChainSecurity. The firm reported identifying 13 real-world contract examples that might be affected by the proposed changes. It had not publicly named the applications while contacting projects privately. The potential effects described include changes to how some contracts handle failed operations and retries, but those remain risks under review rather than confirmed failures. Hoodi’s canceled configuration also included a planned increase in its gas limit to 200 million. With the activation...
