Emmy Awards in Advanced Talks to Move to Amazon Prime Video

The Television Academy is in advanced talks with Amazon Prime Video to move the Emmy Awards telecast to streaming, a move that would end the ceremony's 31-year rotation on broadcast television. The negotiations follow the conclusion of an eight-year wheel deal with ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, which expired with the 78th Emmy Awards broadcast on NBC on September 15, 2026. Under the previous agreement, the broadcast networks paid the Television Academy approximately $8 million annually for the rights. The potential shift to Amazon Prime Video would mark the first time in the Emmy Awards' history, dating back to 1949, that the ceremony would not air on a broadcast network. A representative for the Television Academy stated that "conversations" are ongoing, while Amazon Prime Video declined to comment. The move aligns with a broader industry trend of major awards shows migrating to streaming platforms. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already announced that the Oscar telecast will move from ABC to YouTube starting in 2029. The Screen Actors Guild Awards also transitioned to Netflix, and the Academy of Country Music Awards moved to Amazon Prime Video in 2022.
