Disney Lays Off a Few Hundred Employees in New Cuts

Published 29 September 2026

The Walt Disney Company is laying off a few hundred employees, primarily in human resources and technology, in another round of workforce reductions, according to people familiar with the matter. The reported cuts were underway Tuesday, September 29, as the company continues a broader effort to reduce costs. The exact number of employees affected has not been confirmed publicly. Accounts described the scale as a few hundred or a couple hundred, and the available reports do not establish a final headcount or a complete list of departments involved. The reductions follow earlier job cuts this year. Disney eliminated about 1,000 positions in April, with reported impacts across marketing, studios and television, ESPN, product and technology, and corporate operations. Another round in July affected several hundred employees, including staff at Pixar and National Geographic, according to reports. The current round is concentrated in shared corporate functions rather than the company’s core film and television operations, though the precise scope remains unclear. The layoffs come amid a companywide cost-reduction effort.
