OpenAI Revenue Run Rate Nears $70 Billion

Published 29 September 2026

OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate is approaching $70 billion, more than 70% above its level at the start of the third quarter, according to reporting based on financial information disclosed to Axios. The figure is an extrapolation of recent monthly revenue, not a disclosed audited annual total, and the company’s costs and profitability remain unclear. The reported growth comes as OpenAI expands its business with companies and consumers. At its DevDay conference, OpenAI said ChatGPT had more than 1.2 billion weekly users, ChatGPT Work and Codex had more than 35 million weekly users combined, and 2.5 million businesses used its products. Those usage figures were shared by the company at the event. Reporting based on people familiar with OpenAI’s finances said its business-to-business revenue more than doubled since July. The same account said consumer revenue added in the third quarter exceeded the amount added during all of 2025. The underlying amounts were not provided, and the figures do not establish how much revenue OpenAI retains after operating expenses. OpenAI’s run rate is a measure that projects current monthly revenue across a full year.
