Delhi Braces for BRICS Summit Disruptions

Delhi is implementing extensive traffic controls, security measures, and closures as it prepares to host the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit from September 11 to 13, 2026. The summit, held at Bharat Mandapam, is expected to cause significant disruptions across the national capital. Authorities have announced that all Delhi government offices, central government offices located in Delhi, and Delhi schools will be closed on Friday, September 11. The Supreme Court and subordinate courts have also declared September 11 a holiday, rescheduling hearings for that day. Despite these closures, essential services are set to remain operational. Banks, financial markets, Delhi Metro services, airports, and railway stations will continue to function, though commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and use alternative routes due to potential diversions. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory detailing restrictions on over 35 roads and establishing 22 diversion points. Key routes in central and south Delhi, including Tees January Marg, Akbar Road, Mother Teresa Crescent, and Mathura Road, will be under controlled arrangements.
