Cyclist Dies, Two Injured in A8 Collision

A cyclist has died and two others were injured after being struck by a car during a training ride in West Scotland on Tuesday evening. The collision occurred on the A8 in Port Glasgow. Police Scotland reported that emergency services were called to the scene around 7:10 PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, following a report of a crash involving a blue Ford C-Max Zetec and three cyclists on the westbound carriageway. A 46-year-old male cyclist died at the scene from his injuries. Two other male cyclists, aged 37 and 27, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The deceased cyclist has been identified as Iain McTavish, a member of the Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club. The club posted a tribute on Facebook, stating they were "devastated at the loss of one of cyclings good guys" and that McTavish was killed while riding with the group. Scottish Cycling also paid tribute, describing McTavish as a "vital member of the Scottish Cycling community." He was noted as a stalwart of the Renfrew bunch and Georgetown TTs, and was the only person to have attended every round of Track League the previous year, serving on its committee.
