Modi inaugurates ₹35,000 crore projects in Vadodara

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of development projects valued at over ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The initiatives focus on enhancing national infrastructure, particularly in rail and road networks, with the stated aim of accelerating India's journey toward becoming a developed nation. A significant highlight of the event was the inauguration of three key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). These sections, spanning 326 route kilometers and developed at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore, include New Sanand to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Saphale, and New Saphale to New JNPT. Officials stated that these additions mark the completion of a major phase for the WDFC, providing direct rail connectivity to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). This is expected to expedite the movement of export-import cargo, strengthen links between industrial centers and ports, reduce logistics costs, and help alleviate congestion on Mumbai's railway network.
