Digi Yatra international trials begin at seven Indian airports
Digi Yatra international passenger trials are under way at seven Indian airports, allowing eligible Indian e-passport holders to use digital identity verification on select international flights operated by Air India and IndiGo, the Civil Aviation Ministry says. The trials are scheduled to run through December 2026 at airports in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar. Passengers may use the service at enabled terminal entry points, security hold areas and boarding gates, where the required infrastructure is available. It is not available on every international flight at those airports. To participate, eligible Indian nationals must create an e-passport-based Verifiable Credential through the Digi Yatra mobile application. The process requires scanning the passport’s machine-readable zone, reading its embedded chip with a compatible smartphone’s near-field communication feature, taking a selfie and verifying the details. The resulting credential is stored in the passenger’s Digi Yatra wallet on the device for use at participating airport touchpoints. The Ministry says the trial is intended to supplement, not replace, existing travel procedures....
