Dangote launches refinery IPO, rebrands from richest to wealth creator

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, launched the Initial Public Offering for his petroleum refinery on Monday, September 14, 2026, using the event to redefine his public identity and advocate for productive investment in Nigeria. The IPO for Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals opened at the Nigerian Exchange in Lagos, offering 4.1 billion new ordinary shares at N525 each, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares valued at N5,250. The offer is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026. At the ceremony, Dangote stated he no longer wishes to be called the "richest man in Africa." Instead, he said he prefers to be known as the "wealthiest man" who creates wealth and opportunities for others. "I don't want anybody again to call me the richest man in Africa. I want to be called the wealthiest man in Africa so that I can create wealth for others," Dangote said. The billionaire industrialist framed the IPO as a transformational opportunity for investors to participate in the economic development of Nigeria and Africa.
