Beefeater Closes All 106 UK Restaurants

Published 10 September 2026

Beefeater, a restaurant chain with over 50 years of history, is closing all 106 of its United Kingdom locations on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The closures are part of a significant restructuring by parent company Whitbread, which aims to refocus on its Premier Inn hotel operations and achieve cost savings of approximately £250 million. The move follows the recent closure of sister brand Brewers Fayre, which shut its 89 restaurants on September 7. Whitbread plans to repurpose many of the former Beefeater sites. A substantial number will be converted to create around 600 additional Premier Inn hotel rooms. Other locations are expected to be transformed into integrated dining facilities for hotel guests, offering a more consistent food and beverage experience across the Premier Inn estate. Sites that do not fit these models are anticipated to be sold as going concerns. The restructuring is projected to impact approximately 3,800 roles across the UK and Ireland workforce of about 30,000 people.
