Colnago launches G5X gravel bike with 53mm tyre clearance
Colnago has launched the G5X, a gravel-racing bike that replaces the G4X with a longer, lower and more stability-oriented design. The new model has stated clearance for tyres up to 53mm, up from 45mm on its predecessor, and adds storage inside the downtube and extra mounting points for carrying gear. The G5X retains a racing focus but is designed to accommodate a broader range of gravel events, including races that involve rough terrain or self-supported, multiday riding. Colnago says it developed the bike with events such as The Traka, Unbound, Badlands and GranGuanche Audax in mind. The frame’s revised geometry includes a longer wheelbase, a slacker head angle and a lower bottom bracket. Colnago says those changes are intended to improve stability on rough ground while keeping steering responsive. Bottom-bracket drop ranges from 77.5mm to 80mm depending on frame size. The bike also uses a 52mm fork rake across sizes. The stated 53mm tyre limit is an increase of 8mm over the G4X, and complete builds come fitted with 50mm tyres. The limit is below the 55mm and 57mm clearances cited for some competing models in the reports.
