British Airways flight returns to Gatwick after emergency

Published 13 October 2026

British Airways flight BA2660 turned back toward London Gatwick on October 13 after declaring an in-flight emergency while travelling to Faro, Portugal. Flight-tracking data showed the aircraft reversing course after passing Brittany in northwestern France and heading back to Gatwick. The reported reason for the emergency was a cracked passenger window, but the damage has not been confirmed. AirNav Radar said the flight crew were carrying out checks before deciding where to divert. The available accounts do not include a technical inspection or a statement from British Airways confirming what the crew found. AirLive separately claimed that the pilots identified structural damage to a window panel on the aircraft’s right side. That description, like the report of a cracked window, remains attributed and unverified in the available information. The aircraft was an Airbus A321-231 operating a BA EuroFlyer service. It departed Gatwick at about 9 a.m., and the emergency was reported roughly an hour into the journey. Flight-tracking records showed it turning back after it had crossed the Brittany region rather than continuing toward Faro.
