Brees Reveals Broncos Contacted Him to Unretire for AFC Title Game

Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees revealed that Denver Broncos assistant coaches contacted him about unretiring to play in the AFC Championship Game after starter Bo Nix suffered a season-ending ankle injury. Brees, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in July, said he seriously considered the offer but ultimately declined after a throwing session with his son demonstrated his physical inability to compete at a professional level. The contact, first reported by ESPN, involved former Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and offensive assistant Pete Carmichael, both of whom had previously worked with Brees in New Orleans. Brees said he was motivated to help because of his relationships within the organization. "There's like 20 guys in that Broncos organization that I know and love," Brees told reporter Ed Werder. "I would love nothing more than to help them win a game to get to the Super Bowl." Brees explained that he conducted a throwing session to assess his readiness. "I started trying to rip the ball to him. And man, this shoulder and this right wrist are so wasted. I got no pop," Brees said. "I can't throw 15 yards with any kind of pop.
