Bowman Takes Responsibility for Crash With Wallace, Byron
Alex Bowman said he lost control of his car and caused a three-car crash with Bubba Wallace and William Byron on Lap 77 of the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, October 11. The collision ended the race for all three drivers. Wallace was taken for medical evaluation and later released, his team, 23XI Racing, confirmed. Bowman said his car became loose while exiting a turn and that he overcorrected, sending it into Wallace’s car. He accepted responsibility after the crash, saying the loss of control caught him off guard. The explanation came from Bowman’s account of the incident; the reports do not independently establish the precise mechanics. Wallace said he saw the collision at the last moment and attributed it to Bowman’s car getting loose, rather than intentional contact. He said he held no hard feelings. Wallace remained in his car briefly after the crash, then walked to an ambulance and was transported for evaluation. Accounts differ on whether emergency staff helped him out of the car or he exited without assistance. 23XI Racing said he was released Sunday. Bowman and Byron were also reported to have been checked and released from medical care.
